Vocabulary Fall List 3

Accolade is any award, honor, or laudatory notice.
       The restaurant recieved accolades from the food critic.
Acerbity is sourness, with roughness or astringency of taste.
        He speaks with such acerbity in his voice.
Attrition is a reduction or decrease in numbers, size, or strength.
        There is a large attrition in the polar bear population due to global warming.
Bromide is a person who is platitudinous and boring.
        Alyssa is such a bromide all she does is copy other people.
Chauvinist is a person who believes one gender is superior to the other.
        Chauvinists still exist today, all around the world.
Chronic is continuing a long time or recurring constantly. 
        I dont not like Jim, he is a chronic liar.
Expound is to set forth or state in detail.
        I believe I expounded the concept of molecular biology quite well.
Factionalism is of a faction or factions.
        Many countries grow weak due to internal factionalism.
Immaculate is free from fault or flaw, free from errors.
       There lawn was simply immaculate.
Imprecation is the act of imprecating; cursing.
       The man shouted imprecations of the worst kind. 
Ineluctable is incapable of being evaded; inescapable.
        The island is ineluctable.
Mercurial is animated; lively; sprightly; quick-witted.
        Sarah has such a mercurial quality about her.
Palliate is to relieve or lessen without curing; mitigate; alleviate.
        Using home remedies she is now palliate but should still see a doctor.
Protocol is the customs and regulations dealing with diplomaticformality, precedence, and etiquette.
        Today in class we learned about cryptographic protocols.
Resplendent is shining brilliantly; gleaming; splendid.
        The lion was resplendent in his beautiful coat.
Stigmatize is to set some mark of disgrace or infamy upon.
         Jane feared being over weight would stigmatize her in the views of her slim classmates.
Sub rosa is confidentially; secretly; privately.
         The president met sub rosa with other nations leader to discuss defense policies.
Vainglory is excessive elation or pride.
        Tim messed up the cake in a vainglorious attempt to impress his in laws.
Vestige is a mark, trace, or visible evidence of something that is nolonger present or in existence.
        Vestige of ancient civilization.
Volition is the act of willing, choosing, or resolving.
         Hamelton decided to go back to school and study law of his own free volition
